Minhaj S. Khaja, MD, MBA is an Associate Professor of Radiology in Vascular & Interventional Radiology, Associate Program Director of the Integrated IR Residency, and Program Director of the Independent IR Residency at the University of Virginia.
Minhaj completed his training in the VIR Clinical Training Pathway at the University of Virginia. At UVA, he was actively involved in the care of vascular patients in a collaborative environment. He completed a five-year MD/MBA joint degree program at the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.
Afterwards, he practiced at the University of Michigan for 5 years where he had been involved in research with his primary focus on the management of complex aortic and venous disease, specifically aortic dissection and chronic venous occlusive disease. Dr. Khaja is the editor of a very popular review book, Vascular & Interventional Imaging: Case Review. Dr. Khaja has demonstrated leadership in his Division, Department, and the Institution by spearheading the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team, Venous Health Program, and Aortic Program at Michigian. He is a co-investigator on many studies with colleagues in Cardiac Surgery, Vascular Surgery, and Vascular Medicine.
Minhaj participates in many national service organizations with leadership roles in many. He is the past Chair of the Early Career Section of the SIR, focused on young faculty development. He is actively involved with the AMA, ACR, ABR, SVM and APDIR. Dr. Khaja is actively involved with medical education at the student, resident and fellow levels and was instrumental in the establishment of the IR Residency program at Michigan. He returned to UVA in July 2019 where he has re-established his collaborative practice in treating patients with aortic, arterial, and venous disease. His dedication to education and vascular disease continue and go hand in hand.
