Biography
Professor Simon Chun-ho Yu (MBBS, MD, FRCR, FHKAM, FHKCR) is currently the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Imaging and Interventional Radiology of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Honorary Consultant of the New Territories East Cluster of the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong at the Prince of Wales Hospital. He is the Clinical Service Coordinator of Vascular Interventional Radiology in the Prince of Wales Hospital, Director of Vascular and Interventional Radiology Foundation Clinical Science Center of CUHK, Director of the Certificate/Diploma Programme in Vascular and Interventional Radiology of CUHK, and Trainer of the Hong Kong College of Radiologists in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
He is currently the President and the Founding President of the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Foundation, President and Founding President of Asia Pacific Association of Imaging Guided Therapy in Oncology, Founding Council member of the Hong Kong Society of Interventional Radiology, and Honorary Fellow of Management Society of Healthcare Professionals
Professor Yu’s current clinical and research interest focus on the advancement of the techniques and technology of VIR in the management of oncological diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, aortic diseases, gynecological diseases and urological diseases. He is the author of 259 peer-reviewed scientific papers and 125 presented scientific paper abstracts, holder of 5 US Patents, and holder of 10 Research and Development Contracts with industry. He has developed techniques for percutaneous biopsy, abscess drainage, intracranial stenting, and carotid stenting. He has invented a needle for abscess drainage, invented a technique for porto-systemic shunt, and a technique for preventing non-target ischemic complications in prostate artery embolization. He has studied extensively the treatment transarterial ethanol ablation and established its role in treating hepatocellular carcinoma.
